A global problem

We live in an age of authenticity. 

We have all been told to be ourselves, urged to express our feelings, and freely voice our opinions. We are encouraged by society to be our authentic selves, unabashed of who we are, and where our core principles lie. In a sense, it all sounds like empowering advice, but in truth, authenticity is quietly distorting our sense of self-value and twisting the ways we view one another.

Dear Ralph Ellison,

I have always had the belief that books are more than just interesting stories written to pass time. Books carved impressions and opened gateways to different places and times for me. Books have engulfed me in worlds of both joy and tragedy making me bubble with happiness or sigh in sorrow. Books have enabled me to escape my protected world to explore other dimensions. With each journey, my mind broadened and my feelings confided.

The Peloton ad, a dystopian fairytale

Recently, a seemingly innocent advertisement by the exercise machine company, Peloton, has sparked outrage and disgust from “woke” liberals and reporters.  The ad, titled “The gift that gives back,” is only thirty-one seconds long and features a young, attractive woman receiving a Peloton bike from her husband for the holidays. She thanks her husband and proceeds to record herself exercising on the bike for the rest of the year. Next Christmas, she shows her husband the video montage she took. How could such a short and straightforward ad about a bike cause any outrage, you might ask? According to dull reporters and frenzied liberals, the answer is that the ad is blatantly sexist, and highlights spousal abuse.
