Washington, DC – President Donald Trump is refusing to concede the 2020 presidential race to President-Elect Joe Biden. If he continues, he will be the first United States President to ever do so. 

Not that the Trump presidency has been like any other. He has broken many norms already, and has been the third President in the United States to be impeached. But if he refuses to concede the election, he will be the first United States President to do so. Before the 2016 election, Trump said that he would refuse to accept the results of the election if he lost. He has done the same this election too, claiming that there was going to be mass voter fraud and that fake ballots would be cast by mail. 

Then the results came in that Biden had won. On President Trump’s Twitter page, he claims that 1,126,940 votes were “created out of thin air”. So far, his legal team has not gotten very far in court. Court cases in many states have been tossed out, and Trump has lost many more. For example, lawsuits have either been thrown out or lost in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, and more. Many news outlets and social media sites are now fact checking Trump’s claims. On Twitter, many of Trump’s tweets containing claims of election fraud are being tagged as a post with misinformation. On news channels, Trump’s briefings are being cut off when misinformation is being spread. Even Fox News, at times a defender of the President, recently cut off a briefing that contained misinformation. Most Republicans have sided with Trump; however, there are some who have congratulated Biden and even criticized Trump. Republican Senator Mitt Romney, for example, in a Tweet about the election, wrote: “It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American President.”
