With the 2024-25 academic year underway, the GWUOHS community welcomes a host of new student-led clubs and activities. The clubs launched this year include Artificial Intelligence Club, Cooking Club, South Asian Student Association (SASA), Team Never Give Up (TeamNEGU), UNICEF Club, and Web Design Club. Each of these student organizations serve as a meeting place for like-minded individuals to expand their knowledge and create meaningful impact.
Junior Shivani P., who founded the SASA along with sophomore Olivia T., shared the purpose of their club.
“SASA was started to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of South Asian cultures, particularly for students who may not have many opportunities to engage with their heritage,” she said. “Our goal is to create a community where students can learn, connect and embrace diverse South Asian traditions through cultural exchange, educational workshops and fun events like festivals and social gatherings.”
She hopes to eventually expand the club’s reach by connecting with larger cultural organizations.
Junior Naima A. has already partnered with UNICEF USA to create a UNICEF Club at GWUOHS. As the club president, she leads the activities along with vice-president Hope B. and treasurer Reem A.
“The motivation behind starting the UNICEF Club stems from a desire to make a difference in the lives of children,” Naima explained. “We aspire to empower our members to become advocates for children’s rights and inspire others to join our cause.”
Senior Audrey E. is another student who brought a new club to GWUOHS this year. Along with senior Emi L., she leads the Web Design Club, where members receive the opportunity to learn and practice design thinking skills.
Audrey also hopes to explore the intersection between art and technology.
“I personally want to study graphic design in university and become a UI [user interface] designer,” Audrey said. “A few years ago, I had no idea there was anything like a UI designer or a product designer. I always thought you could either do computer science or something creative and artsy not mix the two. I wanted to kind of give other students a chance to experience that mix of being creative while also being in the tech industry.”
With the promise to serve as welcoming hubs for individuals to develop and share their passions, these new clubs fit well with the remainder of the student organizations at GWUOHS.
