Exciting opportunities abound in the GWUOHS STEM Club, the school’s only student society dedicated to all forms science, technology, engineering and mathematics. From epidemiology and urban design to software engineering, the STEM club works to introduce members to new and lesser-known fields, as well as delve into popular and sought-after professions. Led by student president Danielle T., vice-president Trygve S. and teacher sponsor Elloree Everett, this club strives to showcase prospective scientific careers and industries through simple presentations and events.
One of the most prominent activities the STEM recently undertook is inviting guest speakers. Interactive events such as a Q&A session with a mechanical engineer help members connect with scientists real-time and put themselves out in the scientific world. Other major guest speakers include an anatomy and physiology professor at the State University of New York and a software engineer from Amazon. The club concluded this year’s fall semester with an engaging game of science-themed Jeopardy.
As the leaders plan for the upcoming spring semester, they urge their members to invite the STEM professionals from their own lives to come and speak to the club. With a careful combination of educational presentations, interactive events and guest speakers, the STEM Club sets its members up for a successful scientific journey.
